Full Slate Roof Replacement, Leadwork Renewal & Chimney Abutment Restoration – Complete Pitched Roof Refurbishment

This project involved a full refurbishment of a large pitched roof that had extensive age-related deterioration, failing leadwork and defective chimney abutment detailing. The existing slates, underlay and flashings had reached the end of their service life, leading to slipped tiles, water ingress and failing mortar around the chimney bases and parapet wall. Our team carried out a complete strip-off of the old roof covering and rebuilt the system from the rafters up. A high-performance breathable membrane and new BS-graded treated battens were installed, followed by full re-slating using premium slates fixed with stainless steel nails. All hips, valleys and junctions were carefully aligned to ensure a clean, uniform finish across the entire roof. The works also included major chimney and abutment restoration. We removed all defective render, vegetation and loose masonry, rebuilt damaged sections, installed new lead trays and fully renewed all lead step flashings, aprons and soakers in accordance with LSA standards. Pipe penetrations were upgraded with new hand-crafted lead slates, and the parapet wall was re-rendered and capped to ensure long-term protection against water ingress. A new dry ridge system was installed for maximum ventilation and improved storm resistance, providing a maintenance-free finish that complies with modern roofing regulations. All works were completed under a temporary scaffold roof, allowing the property to remain fully protected throughout the project.
